There were a lot of things I was supposed to get a grip on. I just wasn't much good at it.

I adore Roland, Jake, Eddie, Susannah, and Oy. I never want this to end. I feel like a part of their world.
I even got to the point that I know who is talking by the tone of the narrator's voice. I love the way he voices Oy. So cute!!
The story of Roland's first love Susan and his experience in Mejis with Cuthbert and Alain is heartbreaking and exciting. Even knowing how it must end didn't stop me from rooting for a different outcome.
This is my favorite book in the series so far.
On to book V...

I chose this book for my second free read Friday. It's a Sunshine State 17-18 nominated book and I plan to read as many as I can. It is a weird premise though, a wasp queen invades a boy's dreams to offer to fix his baby brother.
Not sure how I feel about this one...

The monster showed up just after midnight. As they do.
-opening lines
The monster says that Conor is the one who called him. But Conor doesn't understand - if the monster isn't here to save his mother, then why? The monster tells Conor three stories and then asks Conor to tell his truth. Conor's truth is the one thing he doesn't want to face. Conor's mother has cancer and is undergoing treatment. Conor feels like he is invisible at school and he is feeling many different emotions that he doesn't know how to deal with. Conor's grandmother comes to help, but Conor feels like she just makes things worse.
This is an amazing story. It deals with the difficult subject of terminal illness and the emotions all family members face in this situation, especially children. The monster is a great character and the stories he tells have meanings even though Conor has difficulty figuring them out.
Conor is going through such a difficult time and I really felt for him. I understood his anger and just wanted to give him a hug. The people around Conor want to help him, but they really don't know how. I think that happens a lot in these situations because like Conor, people don't always know what they want or need.
I haven't seen the movie yet, but I'm planning to. If it is anything like the book, I will like it, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

This is a cute graphic novel by the same author who brought us Sisters, Smile, and Drama.
The students in our Elementary school library love Telgemeier's books. This book brings up some serious issues including childhood cystic fibrosis, death, and fear. But the tone of the story isn't too serious.
Cat is upset about moving and worried about her younger sister Maya. But at the same time, Cat wants to be able to do her own thing without feeling guilty. Cat is sad about leaving her friends and moving to a new place and then she finds out the new town is filled with ghosts. She is angry and terrified at the same time. Celebrating the Day of the Dead helps Cat get more in touch with her feelings and her Mexican heritage.
This is a cute story with bright, colorful illustrations. It is aimed at the middle-grade student, probably 3rd thru 8th grade, depending on reading level. I like the way Telgemeier approaches serious issues in a way that kids understand and enjoy.
I read this book for my Graphic Novels class. :)

I LOVE this book. The Wizard of Oz, The Stand and Roland's "ka-tet" all coming together. Amazing!! King is truly a master storyteller.

So, I landed on the Electric Company - Read a book where a main character is in STEM, or where the author's first and last name contain all of the letters in "Tesla".
I decided to go with author's first and last name contains the letters in "Tesla." The book I chose is Every Ugly Word by Aimee L. Salter. I found it on my Kindle tbr list. :)

We are geese,
And geese keep going.
We're a strange family.
But I kind of like it that way.
Ahh, this book. I didn't think I was going to like this one. I read it because it's a Sunshine State nominated book for the 2017-18 school year, and it fit the talking animals BLopoly space that I landed on.
The name of the robot is Roz and she has a lot of knowledge, but she doesn't know how to survive on this island. Roz is having difficulties until she realizes that she can learn from the animals. Once Roz realizes the animals are talking, she also realizes she can communicate with them. One day, Roz accidentally destroys a goose nest and can save only one egg. This leads to some pretty amazing and heart-warming moments that I really enjoyed. The ending is a bit sad but hints at the sequel which is coming out later this year.
The story is more than a bit quirky, but that's what makes it so much fun. I think it will be a big hit with our 3rd - 5th graders this coming school year. Though I'm sure it will appeal to older kids and adults as well.
Oh, and the illustrations really bring it all together.
I read this book for the Fantasyland 7 space, and this is my first book after the big shakeup. At 277 pages it is worth: $6.00

I read this comic book series for my graphic novel class. I went into it knowing nothing about the Black Panther except having seen him in an Avenger's movie I think. I found this series of comic books more than a bit confusing. So many characters to keep track of and so many story lines that I didn't really understand. But, the main story is good, and if you know the backstory, maybe it will be easier to follow and understand.

So, I was thinking about rolling tonight because I finished my book. I usually write the review, then roll, and then pick a new book. But I was ready to change my pattern and roll tonight so I could start reading. Then I realized it is too complicated to roll, figure out my square and then pick a book tonight.
PLUS, I have two or three books started that are not part of the game. I should just read one of them tonight. I've been neglecting them in favor of BLopoly (LOVE this abbreviation btw whoever started it).
So, I'm going to roll tomorrow...
Monster Calls tonight I think

The main character is a robot, but she interacts and talks to the animals on the island. So, talking animals (check) and a sunshine state 17-18 book (check). Perfect!!
